The NRA basic pistol course is designed for both the beginner and experienced shooter. This course teaches the basic fundamentals of shooting. You will learn the NRA’s gun safety rules, range commands, the different pistol parts and how they operate, fundamentals of shooting, gun storage and how to properly clean your gun. The course includes both classroom instruction and range time where the lessons learned will be put into practical use. Students will receive the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, Winchester Marksmanship guide and, after passing a written and practical test, you will be issued a certificate of completion. Students will need a pistol and approximately 150-200 rounds of ammunition. You may use any caliber pistol, including .22’s. If you do not have a pistol, let me know ahead of time, and I can rent one to you for $20. Students will also need ear and eye protection and proper clothing and footwear for the range.
The course does not cover range fees or ammunition costs.
The NRA offers an online program allowing you to learn the Basics of Pistol Shooting from the comfort of your home without worrying about time and scheduling conflicts. The course is divided into two phases.
PHASE I
You will log onto https://nra.yourlearningportal.com/ , register and complete the classroom portion. Upon successful completion of this portion, you be issued a PIN number. Print your certificate and contact me with your pin number and we will schedule a time to complete Phase II.
PHASE II
Consists of live firing exercises on the range. You will demonstrate your knowledge of safely handling, operating and storing a firearm. An NRA instructor will then have you shoot the course of fire. Students will need proper clothing; ear and eye protection and foot wear (No opened toed shoes). Range fees, firearms and ammo are not included. Ear and eye protection and ammo can be purchased or rented at the range. If you need a firearm contact me ahead of time and I will rent you one.
The License to Carry (LTC) class is a mandated class that must be taken in order to carry a weapon, either openly or concealed, in the state of Texas. This class is not designed to teach you how to shoot. You are expected to know how to safely operate and shoot your weapon prior to taking this course. The class consists of 4.5 hours of classroom time plus an additional 1-2 hours for range time and examination time. After successfully passing the classroom portion, an applicant must attend 1-2 hours of range instruction and demonstrate handgun proficiency (shooting) with the Texas Qualified LTC Instructor. Both the written test and the course of fire must be passed in order to receive the certificate of completion. The classroom instruction will cover:
Introduction to License to Carry Laws and Regulations
Interpretation of Deadly Force Laws of Texas as they pertain to self defense, protection of person(s) and property.
Firearms instruction, Safety Rules and Regulations. Knowledge of how to choose a handgun.
Dispute Resolution, learning how to find non-violent solutions to conflicts.
The NRA Concealed Carry Weapon’s Class is the perfect course to help you hone your skills and continue to grow as a shooter. The LTC Class is just the beginning of your firearms training. Your next step is to become proficient and confident with your firearm. Our NRA CCW Class will help you achieve these goals. While this is an entry level course, it is quite challenging.

Students will be provided all NRA CCW course materials, take a NRA authorized student exam and receive a NRA course certificate upon successful passing of the class.
Students will need a centerfire handgun, a minimum of 2 spare magazines or speedloaders, eye and ear protection, a baseball cap to keep the sun out of your eyes and protect against spent brass casings, 300 rounds of ammunition, a belt holster, concealment garment, sunscreen and plenty of water.
Prerequisites: State of Texas LTC permit or any other state approve concealed weapon permit.
